DentAppoint Introduces New Personalized Patient Scheduling Service
November 30, 2009
DentAppoint Patient Recall Services unveiled a personalized patient scheduling service at the 2009 annual meeting of the American Dental Association.
The new DentAppoint service is designed to assist dental practices in successfully activating patients that are overdue for hygiene and restorative treatment.
“We believe there is a significant demand for this type of service,” said Michael Barrett, founder of DentAppoint. “Most dental offices have several hundred overdue and inactive patients on their recall list. The traditional methods of automated reminders and postcards are marginally effective. Besides, most dental offices don’t have enough staff to perform the phone calls themselves during regular office hours. As a result, many practices are losing more patients than they are gaining.”
The key to DentAppont’s scheduling success is that “real” people are used for patient contact. Personal calls are made to overdue patients during evening hours Monday through Thursday, and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. These are days and times when patients are most likely to be home.
An advantage of DentAppoint is that appointments are booked directly into the office’s practice-management software. DentAppoint integrates with major software vendors such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Practiceworks, Softdent, Easy Dental, Open Dental, DentiMax, and Windent.
The service provides dentists with weekly and monthly reports showing patients contacted and scheduled for appointments. Patient information profiles can also be updated, if requested.
“Our priority,” said Barrett, “is to enhance the patient relationship.”
DentAppoint promises to schedule at least 25 new appointments each month for a monthly fee of $599. This could deliver a return on investment of 9:1. DentAppoint complements any automated confirmation/reminder services currently being used, and is compliant with HIPAA patient privacy regulations.
Smile Reminder Unveils New Features
November 30, 2009
Patient communication service, Smile Reminder, unveiled a new line of Extend Platform tools at the 2009 Greater New York Dental Meeting.
Encompassing a total of six external communication and patient acquisition tools, the Extend Platform should provide dental practices with relevant and effective outreach solutions.
The Extend Platform will allow dental practices to modernize patient and prospect outreach through the following features:
* Practice analytics gives dentists insight into the financial performance of the daily practice by providing reliable reporting on monthly and daily production numbers, production sources, accounts receivable, new patient inquiries, most productive procedures, and more.
* Patient mapping yool provides geographic positioning of a dental practice’s patient database and highlighting of recently acquired patients, helping to eliminate the guesswork when determining where patients actually come from.
* Google local listings help dental practices boost their regional online presence. Smile Reminder’s Extend Platform assists with images, videos, reviews, and keyword optimization to bring a practice’s Google local listing to the next level.
* ZubuMail optimizes prospect outreach by creating effective, targeted, and customized direct mail campaigns.
* Social networking tool helps dentists extend and share their practices through the communities of Facebook and Twitter to increase online visibility by posting updates and communications to the online communities from a single interface.
* Smile Reminder video is an in-office video capability that captures patient testimonials and instantly uploads them to video sharing sites like YouTube, Google Videos, and Yahoo! Video. This helps result in increased online visibility, searchability, personalization, and targeted outreach to patient prospects.

Irrigation Needle Helps Root Canal Therapy
November 6, 2009
Root canal therapy success depends on effectively cleaned canals.
The new ProUltra PiezoFlow ultrasonic irrigation needle from DENTSPLY Tulsa Dental Specialties delivers cleaning power by facilitating the introduction of irrigants into the root canal structure, including dentinal tubules and isthmuses.
The continuous flow of irrigant imparted with ultrasonic energy removes debris and promotes the disruption of biofilms. The result of this advanced irrigation protocol is increased cleaning power.
Research indicates that the addition of one minute of ProUltra PiezoFlow irrigation following hand/rotary instrumentation significantly decreases the chance of a positive bacteria culture when compared to hand/rotary instrumentation and NaOCl alone.
Titanium Abutment Instruments Available in Special Kit
November 6, 2009
KOMET USA’s titanium abutments instruments are now available in a 10-instrument kit designed especially to be used by dentists.
Kit 4475 contains burs made from tungsten carbide, designed for the intraoral adjustments of titanium abutments. These instruments effectively work on titanium abutments and should be followed by a matching finishing bur, identified with a red ring.
The bur’s coarse, cross-cut toothing is specially developed for intraoral preparation of titanium and cuts tough titanium without clogging. Five congruent carbide finishers are also available in the kit.
Shaping burs are identified with a golden shank and a “G” in the reference number, and come in different sizes: H856G.314.016/018, H847KRG.314.016/018 and H379G.314.023.
Finishing burs are also available in common sizes: H375R.314.016/018, H336.314.016/018 and H379.314.023.

Tilos: A New Endodontic File System
November 6, 2009
Ultradent Products demonstrated a new endodontic file system, TiLOS, at the 2009 Greater New York Dental Meeting.
Building on Ultradent’s Anatomic Endodontic Technology, TiLOS is a new hybrid system that incorporates stainless steel and nickel titanium hand files, as well as engine-driven stainless steel shaping files and nickel titanium apical files that are optimized for Ultradent’s 30° reciprocating handpiece.
Ultradent developed the Endo-Eze TiLOS File System with the idea of bringing together the metal best-suited for files in specific areas of the root canal while using a safe and effective mechanical movement.
The system utilizes a cleaning and shaping hybridization technique, using the technology and speed of the biomechanical systems while maximizing the intuitive, traditional nature of hand instrumentation.
It reduces the influence of anatomical variations, pathological conditions, and complications often experienced with other systems, such as ledging, zipping, canal transportation, unnecessary tooth structure removal, and file separation.
In addition to a range of hand files and engine-driven files, the TiLOS patient packs consist of three stainless-steel shaping files–purple, white, and yellow– with the respective tip diameters of the active portion (0.10, 0.13, 0.13 mm) and respective tapers (0.020, 0.030 and 0.040 mm/mm), two hand K-type stainless steel files, #15 and #20, and three NiTi transitional files with an active portion initial diameter of 0.25 mm and tapers of 0.08, 0.04, and 0.02.
The TiLOS files are sold in preconfigured patient packs, apical finishing packs, and refill packs.
