Course Abstract:
The lecture looks closely at the optical properties of anterior teeth and how to integrate resin with natural tooth structure to replace both the physical and optical properties of teeth. Layering techniques for Class IV direct resin restorations will be discussed in detail using the latest generation of resin systems.

Direct resins present many challenges that include gradual discoloration of the resin, marginal leakage, difficulty in obtaining a texture match and white lines at the margin. The presentation discusses finishing and polishing techniques that deliver indiscernible Class IV restorations without any shine thru.

Different methods of inserting Class IV’s with matrices and silicone stents will be discussed and demonstrated.

Course Objectives:
1. Tooth preparation for invisible esthetics and durability.
2. Layering to create polychromatism and avoid ’shine thru’.
3. Application of opaquers and colors and tints.
4. Matching the approximal / adjacent teeth.
5. Bonding and finishing technique.
6. Duplicating translucency / Incisal halos.
7. Matching the lustre between resin and natural tooth

Dr. Sunil Bhoolabhai


Dr. Sunil Bhoolabhai completed his B.D.S. degree from Bombay University in 1984 and subsequently his D.D.S. from California State in 1992. He maintains a full time practice emphasising cosmetic and appearance related dentistry in Bombay.

He is the founder and president of the Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry in India and an Accredited member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. An Accreditation Examiner with the American Board of Cosmetic Dentistry, he is an Honorary member of the Canadian Academy of Esthetic Dentistry and a Fellow of the International Academy of Dento Facial Esthetics. He is a Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantology. He has lectured extensively, internationally, and is an advisor to various dental manufacturers and journals.
