Composi-Tight Matrix Forceps: Does it Make the Removal of the Sectional Matrix Easier?

matrix-forceps-main-circle.jpgI do a lot of Class II composite restorations. I generally use sectional matrix bands and a ring. I tried out the Composi-Tight Matrix Forceps (Garrison Dental) at a recent dental meeting. It seemed to make placement and removal of the sectional matrix much easier. Of course I tried it out on a mannequin at the exhibit booth. Do any of you use it clinically on patients? Is it worth the cost which is over $100? I have 5 operatories to equip if I buy them so I want to get some feedback.

    what i have found very successful at removing those comp. matrices is i take a small hemostat and clamp it to the top or side of the matrices and roll the hemostats which wraps the matrice around the hemostat till it is out just like opening a can of sardines and it pulls it right out. i only use these forceps for this only so i can maintain the nice closure at the end of the hemostat
    large ones or ones that have been used to remove crown temps for example lose the ability over time to close at the end and will not hold on to the thin matrice. i hope this works as well for you dr jim

    For many years now I have pealed the matrix back from the filling and taken a piece of floss between the filling and matrix. This makes the matrix easy to remove and prevents adheared composite breaking out from the contact area
    I still use a hemostat to shift the band as contacts are very positive

    Works great! I bought six but 4 or 5 of them suffered from rust.
