Dr. K. asks:
x-ray_img.gif
I am computer illiterate. I am in my sixties and am such a dinosaur about digital products that I shudder at the thought of having to bring even more high-tech into my practice. I am looking at digital x-ray systems now. I know nothing about the high-tech aspects of the different systems. I am considering buying the Dexis Digital X-Ray System. The system is supposed to be user-friendly and they are supposed to have a lot of tech-support. I am looking for feedback from people in my position that have installed these digital x-ray systems in their practice. What has been your experience? Should I make the transition?

We have Dexis and while the images are decent the company is very bad to deal with . Not only is the product expensive to begin with, but Dexis will nickel and dime you to death with every kind of fee (support, upgrades, maintenance).

AJ told us some really important info. What are the alternatives? What companies can you quote me to research?

I am a 56 y.o. solo GP, and have been using the system from Kodak for the last 4 years. I have been extremely satisfied with the IT team certified by Kodak, the customer service, and most importantly the images that I produce. I looked at several systems and found Kodak to be superior. Interestingly, I also had a relatively “pain-free” installation and training process which took away a lot of the potential stress of making the transition. If you don’t already use the SoftDent software that is made for the Kodak system, you will need a bridging software. I recommend TigerView.

i have had dexis for around 11-12 years now. it is by far the best system out there. their sensor is the most comfortable…their software is the easiest and most intuitive of all systems out there…their support has been second to none…and i would never trade it in for anything else. and now they have developed their new platinum sensor and they have taken the best and made it even better. just take a look at an image from this sensor and your decision will be an easy one. feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Hi Jeff and any other dexis users, I am strongly considering getting this system. I have concerns about getting the entire root in a pa. As well as posterior end. The sensor seems small, my question….is it too small. Can anyone give me your detailed experiences with the Dexis system. Thanks!

I have to agree with AJ - I have been using Dexis for a few years and have been happy with the product, but the company’s service is absolutely terrible. Just one small example of how they operate:
I recently bought a USB adapter for my sensor. They charged $115 dollars “Shipping” over and above the high cost of the hardware. For that shipping bill I still had to wait a week to get it. Just charge what you want for your item, and charge the cost to ship it. They won’t get the message until they see it’s costing them customers.

To all those concerned about Dexis and your negative service issues, I recommend that you ask Dexis technical support for your local Dexis representative name and phone number or contact your local Henry Schein Digital Technology Specialist. Those folks have a vested interest in your happiness and they have a multitude of tools available to escalate any concern you may have and get it resolved quickly.
