I do a lot of endo in my general practice and I use a microscope and basically the same equipment that an endodontist uses. I recently saw an advertisement for a new type of finishing file made of a plastic polymer. This file is supposed to replace the need for finishing off with an ultrasonic file. It does not enlarge the canal. I would like to get rid of my ultrasonic unit because it is time consuming and expensive to maintain. But does it work? The advertisement did not have any references to the literature. Does anybody have any experience with this plastic finishing file?

what are the advantages and disadvantages of F FILE , how about its fracture resistance?
Hi,
A recent article by Townsend & Maki (2009) demonstrated the efficacy of this file in the removal of bacteria from a simulated plastic canal. It was compared and found to be equally effective as PUI & Sonic irrigation. There doesn’t otherwise appear to be much in the literature about it.
I agree with you about PUI and i don’t like taking it further than the main body of the canal. The risks of separation and ledging concern me. I am now trying the Endoactivator sonic irrigation device which is cheap, simple and allegedly v effective (Caron G 2006-articles to be published in journals 2010). It might be worthwhile taking a look at this device.
Good luck!
