Dr. B. asks:

Can you really do a “no-prep” veneer? I usually prepare the tooth like a reverse three quarter crown so that I can fully control the aesthetic field. You really have no control of the aesthetic field when you just make an impression of the teeth as they are. Also, how do you know that you have seated you no-prep veneer correctly if it just fits over the tooth? How do you deal with the increased bulk at the cervical margin? Do these no-prep veneers stay on? Some of my patients have seen advertisements for Lumineers [Den-Mat] and they do not want their teeth prepared and do not want injections. What are the rest of you doing?

We regularly use Lumineers and I can probably answer to your concerns:
To get the aestethic field you need soe practice but the learnin curve is steep.
Impresion system is a two step with spacing and with good materials and i also sometines use separtion cord or just some hemostatic solution(ferric sulfate based) to ensure good gingiva margin(of course good periodontal health and non swollen gingiva are a must)
You can ask for a wrap arround so they will seat nicely, if you dont want it it can be removed and then polished after cementation.
This veneers are extremely thin and so there is no bulk at the gingiva level, and they must be finished with a good polishing carbide bur to ensure that. They also dont go under the gingiva.
They stay on only by the retention you get from cement, I use the denmat kit that is great and allows you a 5 year warranty
    hope that helps

if the teeth are in a straight row and not minimally crowded ..(no prep)lumineers may work. But you are right the aesthetic advantage with even minimally preppped teeth veneers is better than no prep…but then if you insist on prepping you may lose your patient…explain him the pros and cons and let him make the decision and follow on.
