This video demonstrates two cases of GBR using a sustained function collagen membrane following implant placement. The advantage of of these collagen membranes (e.g. Neomem Collagen Membrane) is that they have a longer resorption time of around 6 to 9 months so they are better able to protect and preserve the site for bone generation. In addition, these membranes have higher mechanical strength for membrane stabilization and a suture pullout strength of between 290g and 350g. In both cases, the collagen membranes were fixated with screws (see Membrane Fixation Screw Kit). The other types of collagen membranes not shown in the video, but that are popular with clinicians, are the flexible collagen membranes. These membranes have a shorter resorption time of of 3 – 4 months, but are drapable and conform to the contours of the defect site.
