Below are some frequently asked questions about our classic Fixed Angle Centrifuge and related questions about PRF. The Classic PRF Centrifuge is a fixed-angle Centrifuge that was used in many of the PRF studies in dentistry, and it still remains the classic and trusted centrifuge for creating all forms of PRF at an unbeatable price! The Centrifuge provided with our kit is easily set to match the exact specifications needed to create the PRF plugs/membranes, or injectable PRF liquid, as described in the literature.

Q: How do I set the RPM and Time on the Centrifuge?

A: To set the RPM and running time, please read and follow the instructions in the operating manual on page 6 - 7, and the Guide that was emailed with your order. Text instructions can be found below, and videos follow the text instructions.

Text Instructions

Briefly, the steps for setting the RPM and Time are follows:

  1. Press the Select Button to Select the RPM setting (the setting will blink when it is selected)
  2. Turn the white knob on the right to set the correct RPM (Note: The number needs to be multiplied by 100, as the setting is X100 RPM, so a 13 setting is equivalent to 1300 RPM, 7 is equivalent to 700 RPM).
  3. Press Select again to save the RPM Setting and move to the Time (Minute) Setting. (Note: If after setting the RPM, you hit Select and a force setting appears, i.e. x100 g setting, simply ignore this setting by hitting Select again, which will move you to the Minute/Time setting. The force x100g setting is set automatically by your RPM setting and should not be changed).
  4. Turn the knob on the right to set the correct time. The time will blink as you are setting it.
  5. Once the time/minute is set, wait a few seconds till the time stops blinking.
  6. If nothing is blinking on the screen, then the setting is saved.
  7. The Settings for your spin cycle will now appear on your screen. If the settings are correct, ensure again that the lid to the centrifuge is completely closed, and press the start button.
  8. After you press Start, the RPM will go back to zero initially, and then it will take a few seconds for the RPM to increase to the proper level.
  9. When the spin cycle is complete, the machine will beep several times and the lid will pop open automatically.
  10. The machine will remember your last setting, so if you routinely use the same PRF protocol, and you have already adjusted the settings as per the prior steps, you can just use your last setting without the need to adjust anything.
  11. IMPORTANT: Never Press the “Door” button while the centrifuge is running. If you need to stop the centrifuge for whatever reason, press the stop button and wait for the RPM to hit 0 and the Centrifuge to beep to signal a complete stop.
  12. IMPORTANT: Ignore the Pulse Button on the Centrifuge: There is no reason to ever use the Pulse button for PRF applications.

Q: Which PRF protocols does the centrifuge provided support?

A: The PRF protocol is very simple: A blood sample is taken without anticoagulant into 10-mL plain tubes which are immediately centrifuged at a specific RPM and time limit. With the DM0412 centrifuge you can create a PRF (plug/membrane or injectable liquid), by simply following the protocols below:

PRF Plugs/Membranes. Use the RED tube and set the centrifuge to spin at 1300 rpm / 8mn (minutes). For making clots and membranes, draw the blood fast, and spin them at 8mn (1300 rpm). At the end of the spin, wait a few minutes to achieve the full clotting. Remove the clots and put them in the box and cover with the crusher. This is the A-PRF+ protocol. For regular A-PRF the protocol is 1,300 RPM at 14 minutes.

Injectable Liquid PRF
For a Female . Use the White plastic Tube & set the centrifuge to spin at 700 rpm / 3mn. At the end of the spin, the supernatant is a liquid and stays liquid at least for 10-12mn. For a Male . Use the White plastic Tube & set the centrifuge spin to 700 rpm / 4mn. Males have more red cells (than female) and the blood is heavier, so the spin protocol is one more minute.

A-PRF Liquid (Sticky Bone) = RED tube 1300 rpm / 5mn (Note: Some users report better results with 1200 rpm/5mn). Use the red tubes. Watch this video: A PRF Liquid protocol video - YouTube

L-PRF (the original PRF protocol - higher speed centrifugation) 2,400 RPM for 12 minutes.

Note: The protocols above are based on the specifications of this particular centrifuge and are in accordance with the newer PRF protocols introduced by Choukroun, that are known as the low-speed centrifugation concept, or LSCC, which have shown significant benefits in several studies. 1,2 There are other PRF protocols described in the literature and at various courses, as researchers are constantly tweaking their methods and changing the centrifuges used. For example, the earlier standard PRF protocols, referenced in the literature sometimes as L-PRF, require higher RCF values, which would equate to approximately 2,400 RPM for 12 minutes on the DM0412 machine (or ~700 RCF-Max).

If you want to use another protocol, you should inquire from the any presenter what particular centrifuge they are using for a particular protocol, and what RPM/time they have used, as well as the G-Force (defined as RCFmax) . With the DM0412 Centrifuge, you can create PRF as described in any protocol by properly setting the RPM/time which would correspond to the proper RCF.

RCF (RCF max) describes the amount of accelerative force applied to a sample in a centrifuge. As RCF is a function of the RPM and radius of the centrifuge, PRF protocol results derived from using centrifuges with different radii are not comparable, and the RPM may need to be adjusted to achieve a similar RCF on a different centrifuge. However, different PRF protocols can be replicated assuming you get the correct information about the protocol and the machine used.

There is a simple online calculator to figure out the equation for RCF (we assume RCFmax is used, which is the international standard of measurement). The radius on the DM0412 is approximately 110mm.

Q: I have tried the A-PRF+ protocol, but for some patients the PRF fibrin clot is not adequate. What can I do?

A: The A-PRF+ protocol is 1,300 RPM for 8 Minutes. This is a low-speed centrifugation concept, as described above. PRF protocols are only general protocol guidelines that will work for most patients. However, due to inherent biological differences, and other factors, it is possible that for some patients 1,300 RPM for 8 minutes will not be sufficient. If that is the case for a specific patient, you can always try the standard A-PRF protocol, which is 1,300 RPM for 14 minutes. Alternatively, you can try the L-PRF protocol per above (2,400 RPM for 12 minutes). The PRF clot generated by L-PRF is generally thicker and longer, than the A-PRF protocol, due to the difference in g-force applied. There are various studies comparing the clots produced by these two different protocols, and there is no scientific consensus as to which is preferred. It is up to each clinician to choose the appropriate protocol based on the situation and case.

Q: What is the difference between the DM0412 Centrifuge and Choukron’s DUO QUATTRO from Process for PRF?

The Duo Quattro Centrifuge is simply a private-label version of the DM0412 Centrifuge with some preset configurations. Both the DM0412 and the Duo Quattro centrifuges have the same exact manufacturer and specifications. As such, the RCF on the centrifuges is exactly the same, as are the protocols.

The only difference between the two machines is that the DM0412 Centrifuge requires you to manually set the RPM and Time for the PRF protocol you want, while the Duo Quattro comes with 4 pre-set buttons which when pressed will automatically set the centrifuge to the correct settings.

However, the DM0412 centrifuge will always remember your last settings. Therefore, if you do not change your protocol often, you can basically set the DM0412 machine once, and then never have to set it again (or only occasionally, if you change your protocol) .

As can been seen in the videos above, to set the DM0412 takes about 15 seconds, so it is quite easy to do. However, if you want a machine that will have pre-set buttons, then the DM0412 is not for you, and you would want to consider the Duo Quattro.
