    Based on this study**** (PDF File), the benefits of Neomem FlexPlus over BioGide are as follows:

    • Boths Sides of Neomem are Smooth. The Neomem FlexPlus does not require identification of the correct membrane side during implantation since both sides of the porcine collagen membrane are smooth. This may help to simplify use during implantation.
    • Longer Barrier Function. The results of resorption and new collagen deposition from the more clinically relevant intra-oral rabbit implant study, demonstrated that the PCM (porcine Collagen membrane, i.e. Neomem FlexPlus) has a less varied resorption and new collagen deposition profile and appears to maintain barrier function longer than Bio-Gide® during early guided tissue regeneration (4 weeks). 
    • Lower Inflammatory Response The PCM elicits lower inflammatory and foreign body giantcell response than Bio-Gide® in vivo, suggesting that the chemical treatments of the PCM have reduced the extent of inflammation and foreign body reactions to a higher degree than Bio-Gide®. The lower degree of inflammation and foreign body response may result in enhanced tissue integration and improved wound healing in terms of minimizing scar-like tissue formation.
    • Higher Suture Pullout Strength  The higher suture pullout strength of Neomem FlexPlus provides additional assurancein terms of membrane fixation in situ.

    To summarize the study briefly, the production and rinsing process, used to manufacture Neomem FlexPlus, removes all traces of chemical cross linking agents. In fact, Neomem FlexPlus has a lower inflammatory and giant cell response than comparable non-linked membranes. Furthermore, cross linking extends and stabilizes the resorption process. When compared to Neomem FlexPlus, the resorption of some of comparable popular non-linked membranes is irregular and rapid in certain time frames especially in the critical early stages of wound healing.
