What is the difference between Ora-Aid and Augma Shield ™?
There is no difference whatsoever between Ora-Aid and Augma Shield. Augma Shield is simply a private label version of Ora-Aid marketed by Augma Biomaterials.
Do you need to remove the protection layer from AugmaShield?
AugmaShield is composed of two layers: a protection layer and an attachment layer. When the attachment layer dissolves completely with the moisture and saliva in the mouth, the protection layer will fall off automatically. There is no need to remove the protection layer by force unless the protection layer is sutured onto the site.
Can we use the AugmaShield in the case of perforation of the sinus membrane?
No, absolutely not. AugmaShield is NOT a membrane, it is just an external protector.
Can AugmaShield be sutured in place for a longer period? What is the suture protocol?
AugmaShield is a wound dressing adhesive band made of polymer containing two layers. The outer layer is protective and the inner layer turns into an adhesive gel when it comes into contact with blood, saliva, or water. The adhesive layer lasts up to 6 hours. If you want the protective layer for a longer duration, you must secure AugmaShield in place using sutures and follow the suture protocol. When suturing AugmaShield, you should NOT suture the dressing material directly. Instead, secure the patch with a cross horizontal mattress suture over the material. Why would the AugmaShield not stick well or fall off too quickly?
If AugmaShield does not stick well or falls off too quickly, it is usually because it was attached incorrectly. First cut it into the proper shape and size for the wound. Although some moisture is required, too much moisture will reduce adhesion, so excessive moisture should be removed with gauze. Place AugmaShield on the wound and press for 5 to 10 seconds to create strong adhesion. It is recommended to attach AugmaShield to hard tissue, since attaching only to soft tissue may cause it to detach due to muscle movement.
How long does AugmaShield stay adhered at the site?
In general, AugmaShield adheres for approximately 6 hours, although the exact time depends on the area of attachment and specific circumstances.
What is AugmaShield made from?
The adhesive side is composed of a water-soluble polymer and the protection side consists of a water-insoluble polymer. AugmaShield is made from polymeric materials including Hydroxyethyl cellulose.
Can AugmaShield remain on the site for longer than a few days?
Yes. While, AugmaShield will stay on the site for around 6 hours, it can certainly be used to protect the site for a longer period. If longer attachment is required, AugmaShield should be sutured on the wound following the recommended suture protocol.
How does AugmaShield compare to Coe-Pak?
Coe-Pak is a widely used non-eugenol periodontal dressing with good adhesive properties, but it has limitations such as poor appearance, bulkiness, and ill-defined setting time. AugmaShield was developed to overcome these issues. Unlike Coe-Pak, AugmaShield requires no mixing, adheres almost immediately, and is clear and thin. AugmaShield is easier to use, provides better esthetics, and requires no mixing or setting time.

AugmaShield is an intra-oral non-eugenol dressing and is comprised of 2 layers: an oral mucosa adhesive side and a protection side. When exposed to moisture, the adhesive side changes into a gel state to achieve adhesion to the wound area. The protection side consists of a water insoluble polymer which covers the wound to protect the applicable area from the environment in the oral cavity.

2. Cut AugmaShield into a proper shape and size. It should be trimmed according to the length of surgical site. (watch our videos for a demonstration of a cutting technique)

3. Slightly remove moisture, and excess saliva with gauze on the wound. Excessive moisture or exudation may reduce the adhesive strength and attachment time of AugmaShield.

4. Remove transparent release paper and apply AugmaShield on the wound.

5. Gently press AugmaShield for 5 to 10 seconds while AugmaShield adheres to wound.
