Can I use the bone expander drills with my handpiece and at what speed?
We get this question quite often. The bone expanders and the saws are compatible with latch-type handpieces. The kit comes with a handpiece adaptor which is attached to the latch-type handpiece for use with the bone expander drills. The recommended speed is 15-20 RPM. We should note, though, that even though you can use the handpiece with the bone expander drills, it is more common to use the ratchet wrench to drive the expanders in, as opposed to handpiece.
Are the screw tops 4mm square and can fit directly in the torque wrench (or any universal 4mm square torque wrench)? Or is the top of the screws not a standard 4mm square size. Also, is the adapter for the latch and the other one just an extension to go from a 4mm square to a 4mm square screw top?
Yes the screw top in the bone expander kit, is a standard 4mm square head to fit directly to the torque wrench in the kit or any other 4mm square head torque wrench. There is also an adaptor in the kit to fit to any latch-type handpiece and a second adaptor that is just extension for a 4mm square head wrench.
I am using the Chiropro L from KLS Martin and Bien Air. It has a latch-type handpiece. Can this be used with the Ridge Split and Bone Expander Kit?

Expanders are also an alternative to the maxillary sinus elevation technique. Expanders are driven into the bone with a ratchet wrench or low speed hand piece. This decreases the surgical trauma of osteotomes. Bone expanders (2.3, 2.7, 3.1, 3.5, 4.3 and 5.1mm) improve the clinical success by improving stability, maintaining bone density and increasing fixation. Each screw had 4 score marking at 10mm, 8mm, 6mm and 4mm.
