The most common size screw used with Cytoflex Titanium Mesh is the 4mm size. Really any size from 3mm - 5mm screws will be suitable depending on the clinical situation (i.e. thickness of bone and where the mesh is placed) but the 4mm size is more commonly used.
Cytoflex Mesh was designed for ease of use to securely contain the bone graft material in a 3-dimensional curve. It can be easily trimmed with surgical scissors, draped over the defect contours and prevent spontaneous collapse after primary closure.
Titanium mesh should be left in for 4 to 6 months.
Cytoflex Mesh is made with pure titanium with a precision mesh profile. It is made with sufficient strength to prevent tear during a normal screw fixation procedure.
Yes, it is highly recommended that clinicians use bone screws to fixate the membrane to the desired position. Although, bone screws are recommended because they provide a more secure anchor, some clinicians use tacks as well.
All Cytoflex Titanium Mesh goes through an anodizing process to strengthen the metal and leaves it with a golden hue.
The M4-300 model was designed for fixation with an abutment screw. The fixation hole has a diameter of 2.5mm, suitable for fixation with most abutment screws.
This is a great question, and in fact it is extremely rare to have the titanium mesh totally covered by soft tissue during the entire 4-6 months it is in the mouth. Titanium mesh is one of my favorite techniques for bone grafting. It works well, and is not expensive. But, remember that the mesh may become exposed. One solution is to cover the porous titanium mesh with a PTFE membrane to block the holes. Other clinicians prefer to cover the mesh with a resorbable collagen membrane. Another tip is that when placing titanium mesh, always extend the flap at least one tooth mesial and distal to the graft site. Score the flap to obtain primary closure.
