Ossguide and other Porcine Pericardium Membranes

Porcine pericardium membranes present an excellent choice for collagen membranes because of their superb combination of strength and adaptability. The first video here demonstrates Ossguide and shows a few quick placement cases. Ossguide is a resorbable collagen membrane derived from purified porcine pericardium that is newly available in the US market (Biogide is manufactured from porcine peritoneum). The membrane has excellent tensile strength, and good adaptation to defect sites. The remarkable tear resistance and effective surface adaptation, of pericardium membranes is due the inherent characteristics of pericardium tissue. The 2nd video below is an excellent webinar from Prof. Rothamel on absorbable membranes, in general. He reviews the various collagen membranes, and introduces the Jason membrane, which like Ossguide is manufactured from porcine pericardium. Notably, Porcine peracardium membranes are not chemically cross-linked, as the fibres of the original pericardial tissue are naturally cross-linked, which provides for a longer barrier function, as compared to porcine membranes derived from other types of porcine tissue.
